History

For almost 30 years, EST Energetics GmbH has been active in the recycling, disposal and thermal processing of hazardous materials. Lithium metal batteries, airbags, ammunition and explosives are recycled in an environmentally compliant way.<o:p></o:p>

1994

Founding of the company

EST Energetics is founded at the Rothenburg/Oberlausitz site. The company's initial task was the thermal recycling of explosives from ammunition stocks to be destroyed.

The world's largest recycling furnace

Energetics starts operating the world's largest thermal processing furnace for explosives with a total length of 10 meters and an outer diameter of 2.45 meters.<o:p></o:p>

2000

Disposal of automotive pyrotechnics

In 2000, EST Energetics GmbH began disposing of automotive pyrotechnics (airbags and belt tensioners).

2001

A company of General Atomics Europe

General Atomics Europe (then Spezialtechnik Dresden GmbH) acquires a majority stake in EST. This strengthens the Group's Sustainability business area.<o:p></o:p>

2014

20 years of EST Energetics

In 2014, our company celebrated its 20th anniversary.

2022

Fire damage

In August 2022, a fire breaks out on the EST premises, damaging several systems and the feed building.

Interim operation

Just a few months after the fire incident, EST successfully resumes interim operations. Work containers are used for this purpose, which are built on a precast concrete foundation. The foundations were supplied by sister company B+F Beton- und Fertigteilgesellschaft mbH Lauchhammer.

2023

Reconstruction and topping-out ceremony

Following a fire, the EST Energetics site was extensively renovated and major investments were made in state-of-the-art equipment. A state-of-the-art new feed building was built. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated in September 2023.
